Cartesius. Cum Sua Naturali Philosophia À Mechanicis Eversus. Comenius, John Amos

22p. Modern quarter calf over marbled boards. First edition. John Amos Comenius (1592-1670) was a Moravian philosopher, pedagogue and theologian who is considered the father of modern education. A treatise directed against Descartes' views on the condensation and dilution of matter. Descartes believed in human reason and logic separating science and philosophy from theology. Descartes believed that personal identity consists in the "continued existence of a unique mind and that the mind and body are connected causally". But when the struggle between the cartesians and the anti-cartesians began, Comenius joined the anti-cartesian movement. He thought that by one element of Descartes believes, he would lead to questioning the entire philosophical system which did not happen.
