This is a pair of first edition books printing the letters of science fiction writer and editor Campbell. Vol. 1 is a common paperback and Vol. 2 is a rare limited edition hardcover. John W. Campbell (1910-1971) was an influential American science fiction writer and editor of Astounding Science Fiction (later changed to Analog) magazine. As an editor, he helped shaped the careers of Asimov, Heinlein, Sturgeon, Clarke, and many more of the great midcentury authors. Asimov is quoted as calling Campbell "the most powerful force in science fiction ever." (I, Asimov) These two volumes collect a small selection of Campbell's letters and provide an overview of his far-reaching influence. Vol. 1 is a 12mo paperback book in very good condition but with minor shelf wear to wraps. This title was never published in hardcover. It contains many letters by Campbell to science fiction and fantasy writers and scientists. Vol. 2 is a limited edition 8vo hardcover book in near fine condition with some minor shelf wear to boards. It is hand-numbered 281 of 300 copies printed. This book contains only letters concerning Asimov and van Vogt.
